We were only slightly soaked...

So this Friday, Matt and I headed to Boone Hall Plantation for Raymond's wedding. I'm sure you guys all received massive amounts of rain. And on our journey to Mt. Pleasant from Summerville, we began to realize just how much rain had fallen and was continuing to fall. If you have even been to Boone Hall, you might remember that there are certain parts of the road that are level with the marsh. Not a good situation at high tide and lots of rain. When we were arriving at 6pm, the road was already flooded, and the traffic flow was being monitored by a state trooper. Raymond's wedding was supposed to have been outside on a dock at Boone Hall. However, the dock was completely flooded with water pouring in the door!
I have to say that Kari (his wife) was a trooper!! The ceiling was leaking, water was EVERYWHERE, and she was fantastic. By the time we went to leave, the water was no longer covering the whole dock since the tide was going out. We decided to take a chance and head back to Summerville. Only we discovered the road was no longer open!! We eventually managed to get back on I-26 where the rain finally STOPPED!! The 'adventure' was over! Or so we thought.
We pull into Matt's parents neighborhood and see a few cars parked at the entrance. Thinking someone was having a party or something, we continue down the road...until we notice that there is no longer a road but a RIVER, and see a Toyota Camry stuck on the side of where the road should have been, surrounded by water--up to the headlights!! Luckily Matt's dad has a truck and managed to come pick us up! If he didn't, I think we would have been swimming!!
I have pictures from Raymond's wedding reception but of course my camera that is older than the world itself died after the first couple of pics, so i had to use my cell phone. The quality isn't great but I'll post them anyway when we get home (still in Summerville).

Happy 1 Year Anniversary, to Us!

On May 27, Matt and I had been married for one year. In many ways, it feels like it was just last week, and in others, like it has been years since we said "I do". This past year, the first of our married life together, has been full of many "firsts", many happy memories, and some not so happy. But I know that no matter what, we'll get through without killing each other!!... maybe.... :) No but seriously... we decided to celebrate our first anniversary together in a more relaxing atmosphere than our honeymoon - sure Disney World is fun, even thrilling, but also CRAZY! So we headed up to the Western North Carolina Mountains to a very small town- Cashiers, right in between Highlands and Brevard NC, but only miles from South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee- also known as Waterfall Country.

The water was REALLY cold!

Like I said, lots of waterfalls!

This trail was a 2.5 loop on Whiteside Mountain. Matt is standing on rock known as "Fools Lookout". You can't really tell from the picture, but he the rock he is on is only about two to three feet in width with a straight drop-off of about 2,000 feet. Terrifying!

This is just another of the many views on Whiteside Mountain.

We road the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad from Bryson City, NC through the Nantahala Gorge and ate lunch at the Nantahala Outdoor Center. We were going to go rafting but ran out of time!

We celebrated our anniversary at a fantastic restaurant in Cashiers called The Orchard. The town is a dry town (but the county isn't, go figure) so we had to "brown bag" our wine after buying it from another local restaurant! But if you are ever in the area, The Orchard is a wonderful place!

I'm Back!

After MONTHS of trying to figure out why i haven't been able to log into my Blogger account, I have finally got it working! There are tons of stuff I need to add but I have a feeling that would take forever...

Happy New Year!

To celebrate the coming of 2008, Matt and I had a hard time deciding what to do: do we go to Columbia like last year? Or do we spend some time in Downtown Charlotte? House party? WHOSE house party??!

We finally decided to head right up the road to Henny and Chad's house! I hadn't seen Henny in YEARS until she and her husband, Chad, walked into AT&T and bought cell phones from Matt. Noticing they are from Clover, Matt mentions, "Oh, you know Courtney's BBQ?" Upon their "yes", Matt informs them that he has married Mr. Courtney's daughter. They respond with, " You married Rae?!" So we have gotten together since them a couple of times, and what better time than New Year's?!

Camera's Back in Business, Just in time for Christmas!!

After two months without a post, I'm back!!! The Holidays can be SUCH a stressful time of year that no matter how much fun it was, I'm glad to be getting back into a routine!!

Kittie and Stella enjoyed their presents Santa left for them in their stockings (yes, Stella got Goldfish!!)

And I got a Dyson DC-17 for homes with pets!!!!

We started Christmas Day with breakfast at my parents house. And then headed down to Summerville around lunch. (For some reason, my sister's lips look blue in this picture...)

It's a house divided...at least where football is concerned!!
